It’s been said that training isn’t telling.   Well either is coaching.    People often expect that a coach will tell them what to do – fix their problem.   In reality, coaching is about asking questions and probing to get at the unspoken thoughts and feelings that often prevent people  from addressing the toughest challenges.

OC Courts Focus on Leadership Development

In affiliation with Brandman University, Janine McDonald of J9 Leading Solutions has been hired to facilitate  the Supervisory Development Institute for the Superior Court of California, County of Orange for a second year.    The Institute was first launched in 2009 to support the Courts efforts to strive for the highest quality judicial officers and staff.   The OC Courts wants to train  leaders to embrace innovative ideas and implement modern managerial practices for effective and efficient delivery of services.

McDonald will lead workshops on Effective Communication, Creative Problem-Solving and Team Building.  Faced with on-going pressure from state budget cuts,  Court employees have been challenged to find innovative solutions to work more efficiently and resourcefully.

Key elements of the program include each of the 25 participants creating a Personal Learning Plan.  Participants are also part of learning teams where they discuss application of their learning week to week and share success stories and challenges with their peers.

Other topics covered in the 12-week program include Change Management, Effective Performance Appraisals, Improving Employee Performance, Goal-Setting, Organizational Influence, Emotional Intelligence and Conflict Resolution.

The Superior Court of California, County of Orange provides judicial and court services to over 3million county residents.  The Court is the third largest trial court in California and the fifth largest in the nation. More than 650,000 cases are filed annually.
