Some weeks are less than awesome.  I recently returned home from a business trip to an aphid infestation, a hacked computer and a broken tooth.  So I sprayed the aphids, took the computer to Microsoft and went to the dentist.  Not exactly the day I had planned.

Then my phone rang, and my son was calling when he should be running routes at his football practice.  I knew it wasn’t good news.  He’d injured his leg, fracturing his tibia near the ankle.  His freshman football season over and crutches would be his main mode of transportation for a while.

It was rough 24 hours, but we got through them.  I was so proud of my son, that after his initial disappointment, and just a few tears, he began to focus on his recovery and getting strong for next season.  I was grateful that I was home and could be there for him when he needed me, and of course that he received quality medical care.

When things don’t go our way, we can become paralyzed or we can take action.  We can let the situation get us down or we can try to find the silver lining.  These are choices we get to make.

Sometimes our daily lives can feel like a series of upsets and disruptions, and I’ve found the best way to move through these challenges is to “hug the moment.” Embrace the situation for the lesson it holds and the opportunity you have to choose how you see the moment.

Loving what is, enables us to continue on and find the light in the dark moments.
